Understand the risks

Consider the downside, too.

Smaller units do not make the underlying investment risk disappear.

Capital can be lost.

The value of an investment and its income can fall. You may lose some or all of the amount invested. Distributions are not guaranteed.

An exit may take time—or be unavailable.

Lock-ins, transfer restrictions, limited demand, and legal constraints can prevent or delay a sale. An on-chain record does not create a liquid secondary market.

The asset matters.

Real estate can be affected by vacancy, operating costs, tenant performance, property disputes, and valuation changes. Media projects can face delays, cost overruns, weak audience demand, and uncertain revenue recovery.

Technology has its own risks.

Custody failures, compromised credentials, smart contract defects, and service outages can affect access to records or the ability to transact. An independent audit reduces neither all uncertainty nor all possible failure modes.

Know what a unit represents.

A digital unit may represent a contractual or entity-level interest. It is not automatically direct title to an underlying property or work. Read the final documents to understand rights, fees, priorities, and restrictions.
